Chrysler Repair: shifting problem, throttle return spring, throttle linkage

Question
I have a 1994 Plymouth acclaim  with 2.5 liter engine and 3 speed auto tranny
Alright... I will start off with the symptoms I noticed from the start to end...   well I was driving and all of a sudden the accelerator pedal felt VERY easy to push... soooo I figured that a throttle return spring or something broke, I was almost home so I kept on driving.
on the off ramp from the highway I stared slowing down like normal and the tranny waited allot longer than normal to downshift to 2nd... and when it did it slammed into it hard, and then to 1st.
So at that point I figured that something had broke in the connection between the throttle linkage and the kick down linkage.
so I started out again and it waited a while to shift to 2nd, and I was just about to reach for my hazard lights because I thought I was stuck in 1st, but then I shifted...  So I ended up creeping the 500 ft or so to my house.
got into my driveway popped the hood and every thing seems fine, except for that there is very little pressure when I manually pull the kick down linkage...  just enough to spring the lever back..
It seems to me that there should be a little more pressure there...
The lack of pressure explains the light throttle feel, and maybe the shifting problems...
So what I am asking is... is there suposed to be some presure on the kickdown linkage?

Well I took the car down the street again and every thing seemed fine other than 1 "stumble" shifting from 1st to 2nd (but it will do that sometimes) but every thing else feels normal...

I am just concerned

By the may all this happened while coming from Florida to Michigan... it is crazy because what I first described happened about 5 min from my house... so I am glad it happened on at the end of my trip...

Hope that makes sense

Thanks
Josh

Answer
Hi Josh,
It is possible that an adjustment of the throttle pressure cable may be what is needed. It is one page from the '94 manual along with info on the shifter cable adjustment. I can xerox and snail mail it to you if you would send me a postal mailing address.
