Motorcycle Repair: motorcyle battery replacement, honda shadow aero, service motorcycle

Question
I have a 2004 Honda Shadow Aero (VT750).  The battery is dead and I have purchased a replacement.  I have never changed a battery before so I need the basics.
I take it out of the box, place it in the battery compartment and then what?  Please tell me how to hook it up in order of tasks.  The manual says how to disconnect, but not how to reconnect.  A reasonable person would assume that you do everything in reverse order, but I want to be sure I'm doing this correctly.
Many thanks!
Anita

Answer
Hi Anita,

Installation is the reverse of removal with the exception of servicing the new battery prior to installation.

Most new batteries need filled with electrolyte (acid) and then trickle charged before being placed in service.

Motorcycle shops may due this service for free for customers who buy a battery.

You could apply a thin coating of grease to the battery terminals and battery leads. This helps prevent corrosion.
