Motorcycle Repair: 2000 Honda ACE vt750cd Shadow wont start, honda ace, trickle charger

Question
mark.hensley@texasairnet.com

My 2000 Honda ACE vt750cd Shadow won't start.  The battery is fully charged, or I can put it on the trickle charger and it will be.  I only have around 5,000 miles on the bike and I bought it brand new in 2000.  I did notice that there is a white square plastic wire connector w/ about 6 wires attached (covered in silicon), and when I jiggle it (although it is securely fastened) a bit, the electrical things start to come alive, but I can't keep it steady long enough to start the bike.  When I hit the start button everything goes dead like the battery is gone.  I noticed to that when I did get it started about a month ago, it would sort of cut out as I was riding like I was running out of gas.  I believe the engine cutting out and electrical issue is a related problem.  As odd as this sounds, I noticed that if I bounce on the bike, the high beam & kick stand indicator will come on, or at the very least flash, when the key is on.  If it helps, I can take a picture of the electrical part I'm talking about.  It's located under the seat.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Mark Hensley

Answer
Hi Mark,

I agree, there's an electrical problem of poor conduction.

I also suspect the fuel system will need flushed and carburetors thoroughly cleaned to remove varnished fuel.

I'll send tech files and more to your email addy.
