Motorcycle Repair: engine noise, woodruff key, cylinder wall

Question
1987 softail. oil pump went out, and shut it down asap. repaired the pump, which you said it would be woodruff key, and it was. now when the bike is running for a few minutes, exhaust smoke from front cylinder, and rattling noise. plugs are not oil fouled

Answer
Your smoke means you are burning oil in the cylinder. Since your oil pump went out you starved somthing in the motor for oil. You might have damaged the cylinder wall or the rings. The best thing to do is start at the top taking the motor apart and doing an inspection of parts as you go to find the problem. If it were me I would tear down the complete motor, since somthing is damaged, and check everything. You never know, until its to late, if you damaged a bearing in the bottom end.
Good luck and happy riding
