Motorcycle Repair: powertrain alignment, rear pulley, compaired

Question
93 FXR Superglide

Mike, what is the best procedure for alignment of powetrain drive belt.  I have rear wheel centered into swingarm, but belts seems to drift to the outside of mainshaft pulley.  I know I have adjustment at front and top of engine.  Bike has about 80,000 miles on it, I guess the  adjustment (turnbuckles) what ever could be warn enought for this condition, or should I try and adjust it.  Im looking for the best procedure, Im sure you have been there.  What else should I look for that could cause this problem.  Main shaft pulley has just been changed, rear pulley has been changed, and I just put a new drive belt on the bike. I have checked bushing on swingarm, they look good to me, but could be soft compaired to new ones. Any suggestions will be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.  Neal

Answer
The belt will not always be centered in the pulley, so as long as its not rubbing anything you are ok.
To adjust the belt though, go to the adjusters at the rear of the swingarm. Tighten them both up until you have the play in the belt you need. No take a ruler and measure from the end of the adjuster to the swing arm. WHat you are trying to do it get the same measurement, so you will have to adjust them until you get them the same.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
