Motorcycle Repair: intalling camshaft 1980 cx500c, honda cx500c, bolt size

Question
Chris...
I'm been going crazy trying to get detail information on how to assemble the camshaft on my 1980 honda cx500c. Do you know where I can find the info? The repair manual is no help at all... I have the part for almost 3 month and I will like to get info/diagram to fix the bike and hit the road. Can you help?

Answer
Hi Efrain.

Getting that camshaft in properly is a real pain in the roomus igloomus; and you are right about the manual.  If you have the usual aftermarket repair manual, then it is almost useless for that.

The repair manual that you need is the FACTORY manual.  This manual is different from the usual manuals that you get in the vast majority of shops.  Go to a Honda dealership and tell them that you want to order the factory repair manual.  The same one that the mechanics use.  That manual will not only have the info that you need, but also every nut and bolt size and thread size, every torqueing and electrical spec on the bike and about everything that you will ever want to know (but were afraid to ask) about the inner and outer workings of your bike.

Of all of the manuals out there for any bike, I always recommend the factory manual whenever possible.  And there is no mistaking the factory manual for any other manual, because the factory manual will have "Genuine (insert make here)" written in the upper corner of the book's front cover as well as having "(insert make here) Motor Co, (Ltd, Inc., Lic)" written across the back cover somewhere.

I hope that helps you out.

Good luck and ride safe.
