Motorcycle Repair: Clutch adjustment on Suzuki VX 800, suzuki vx 800, friction plates

Question
Chris, I just bought a 93 Suzuki VX 800 with 8,300 miles showing on the odometer. ( Fact or fiction, who knows.) The clutch lever needs to be released almost all the way out before it starts to grab. I tried a quick adjustment at the cases and then adjusted it at the handlebar. It didn't make any difference. The clutch doesn't chatter or slip. Do you think the friction plates are worn out? Thanks for your help. Lynn

Answer
Hi Lynn.

On a hydraulic clutch, it will normally engage near the beginning of the clutch movement.  They are not adjustable.  As long as the clutch is working and there is no clatter or slippage, then don't worry.  Bad or worn friction plates would slip.

Ride safe.
