Motorcycle Repair: 1999 zx9r- carbs, valve seals, 1999 zx9r

Question
Hey Chris
I have fuel flowing out the breather hose connected to the top of the carbs and obviously major flooding. It will start up but 15 seconds later I get a steady flow out the hose so I shut it down. No experience disassembling carbs. The bike has been sitting for a year+. Do it myself or take it in?...$$$.  I have yet to find a good manual for the job. What do you think . I saw a discussion you had last year on the same problem (9/18/2004-95 Vulcan). I suspect my problem/fix would have the same possible solution.  What do you think and thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Gregg.

It sounds like either the floats are bad (least likely) or the float valve seals are bad (most likely).

If you can get the factory repair manual, then do so.  It will definitely help you in this and every case.  The Clymer manuals are also very good and will help a lot for this and other issues as well.

Good luck and ride safe.
