Motorcycle Repair: spokes, wheel truing, spoke wrench

Question
2001 FXST. Tapped on front spokes and they ping. Have a few pairs
that also rattle. Bought a spoke wrench today. What is the proper
way to tighten these without throwing the rim out of round and or
puncturing the front tube. Any assistance is appreciated.

Answer
The only way to properly tighten spokes is to have a wheel truing jig with a dial indicator. If you attempt to tighten the spokes without the above you will throw the wheel out of alignment. You are only allowed so many thousands of an inch of play in the side to side and up and down.
