I have an 1980 IT175 that is spiting crank case oil out of the tailpipe. Can you tell me why and how to fix it. I just got it bord to a 200.

Hi Adam.
When you had it bored out, did they put in the right size pistons and rings?  Did they possibly mess up the boring process?  Is it possible that the fuel/oil mix is right?  Too much oil will do the same thing.

Start with those things.

Good luck and ride safe.

The piston and rings are right. This happened with the old piston and I had it bored out and replaced the rings and piston because I thought it was the problem. The bike runs and sprays droplets of crankcase oil out the pipe. It does this until the crankcase is empty. I am stumped. Any ideahs? I can't find a breather hose from the crankcase. So far can't figure it out. Someone thought maybe the head is on to tight. Have you ever heard of this?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Answer
Hi Adam.

The head being too tight shouldn't have that effect.  There is a leak somewhere that is allowing engine oil into the system.

How about the valve seals?  What condition are they in?  If they are leaking, then engine oil could be intruding from there.

There aren't too many places that engine oil could get into the cylinders from.

Let me know what you find.

Good luck.
