Answer
Hi Trey,

I don't have statistics for this occupation's projected salary. I can say that MC technicians continue to earn more as dealership shop rates increase.

Ohio's average flat-rate is between $45 and $50.

A tech can be paid in a variety of ways: a percentage of the flat-rate, 20% to 50% is common; an hourly wage; a combination of hourly wage and flat-rate percentage; or salary.

In cold climates, some techs may have to draw unemployment benefits during winter months.

The MC tech career was okay as a young, single man. I needed the benefits and security of a professional career to support the quality of lifestyle and retirement needs to support my family.

Nowadays, I work full-time as a deputy sheriff assigned to the Forensic Services Unit as an Evidence Technician (CSI). I continue to work as a MC tech out of my home shop in spare time. Work is plentiful even during Ohio's winter.

If you choose MC tech career, learn much about machining and electronics. Consider the local community colleges for machine shop and electronics courses.

Respectfully,
Mark Shively
