Dear Mark an ammendment to my previous questions... if it would be the timing, what would be the procedure for correctly setting the timing and would adjusting the valves be something a weekend mechanic could do, or is the procedure too complex for the average weekend warrior?

Checking and adjusting valve clearances can be done by you at home.

I have confidence in your ability. I know this because only a few out of many read my instructions for asking me a question. You're one of the very few.

When performing the worrk, read the service manual. Learn about the work in advance and be prepared. Work patiently and email me directly if you need help.

I'll try and email you tech files on the work. It should be  known that free email servers such as Yahoo and Hotmail rarely receive my tech files due to the file size limits on these servers.
