Motorcycle Repair: miss in Kawasaki KZ 100LTD(1981), kawasaki kz, ceramic insulator

Question
Dear Mark:
I have a 1981 Kawasaki kz 1000LTD, I had the carbs thoroughly cleaned, ultrasonic cleaning due to no start probs. After new gaskets and carb cleaning it has ran great until about the 2nd month. It takes forever to cold start w/ choke so i use a shot of ether to avoid extended cranking. It seems to be going through a set of 4 NGK B8ES plugs every 3 weeks, the ceramic insulator around the electrode gets corrodded and the plugs are black, but not oil fouled or sotty. Under throttle it has a "hesitation" or miss in all ranges. Could this be a timing issue or something else. The carbs were professionally cleaned and had new gaskets in them and the carb has 120 jets with a 4 into 1 exhaust, it didnt miss after the cleaning, but now has a very moderate miss. It still has good torque under throttle but still has a miss.
when the carbs were cleaned a compression check was done and from left to right it was 110#, 115#, 110#, 115#. any ideas as to what could cause the miss, and i feel it is not getting that great of gas milage either.
                            Sincerely,

Answer
Hi Michael,

I suspect fuel contamination may be the cause of the hesitation.

Check the fuel in each flaot bowl for evidence of water, rust, and other contaminants.

Fine rust particles will pass through paper fuel filter elements.

Respectfully,
