Motorcycle Repair: siezed piston, rear cylinder, rev limiter

Question
i have an after market custom with the ultima 120 motor, i broke a rear belt the other day in second gear, even thought have a rev limiter think it may have over rev'ed and replaced the belt. rode about thirty miles and the motor started screaching and shut down.  have never siezed a piston and not sure what noise it makes when it happens.  the rear cylinder looks like it has some gualling in it. other wise the motor seems to turn very free, just wondering if i may have a bearing going before i replace the top end.  what else should i check out?

Answer
Generally, seizing a piston will not make that kind of noise. It usually makes a rattle. I would start at the top end checking everything. If you find nothing then check the cam and lifters. You will just have to keep looking until you find the problem. You can check your rods since the cylinders are off. Take the front rod and see if you can move it up and down. If there is anyplay at all you need new rods.
Good luck and happy riding
