Motorcycle Repair: Pulse Generator Problem, honda xlr 250, motorcycle applications

Question
Hi Bill,

I have already isolated the electrical problem on my 1988 Honda XLR 250 Baja and it seems to be that no voltage is coming out from the Pulse Generator. Do you have any idea on the standard gap/clearance between the Pulse generator and Pulse Rotor since the contact points of the original generator is already worn out? Thanks so much!

Answer
Alvin, the air gap for older cars with electronic ignition is about .005"-.012". This isn't usually adjustable on most motorcycle applications. Be sure you don't have some kind of crankshaft bearing issues, as there should not be any kind of "wear" in this area.
