Question -
I AM TRYING TO WIRE A AFTERMARKET TACHOMETER ON A 2005 FXDWG (CARB NOT EFI) WHERE DOES THE GRN RPM FROM THE TACH GO, DO I NEED A TACH ADAPTER WIRE. IF SO WHERE DOES THAT GET HOOKED UP TO. THERE IS NO RPM WIRE ANYWHERE ON ANY OF THE STOCK CONNECTORS.
Answer -
Generally, on the after market tacs the tac picks up it RPMs from the coil. It should run off the pulses from the wire that is going to the ignition.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike.
I ASSUME WHEN YOU SAY INGNITION THAT YOU ARE REFERING TO THE COIL. IF SOMETHING DIFFERENT PLEASE EXPLAIN MORE.  I WOULD ASSUME THAT IT GETS CONNECTED TO THE WIRES COMMING OUT THE BACK OF THE COIL. I KNOW WHEN I JUST SHOVED A IRE IN ONE OF THE SPARK PLUG SPOTS ON THE COIL I ONLY HAD ONE CYLINDER FIRE. THANKS

Answer
the coil has two sides, one is the hot side which is always hot when the ignition is turned on and the other side is from the ignition which is like a on off switch. Your tac should count the number of pulses from the coil. You tac wire should go to the pulse side. You can determine this with a test light or trace the wire coming from the ignition.
