Pontiac Repair: is it possible my engine seized up when it overheated?, pontiac grand am, types of tests

Question
Hi there, I have a 2004 pontiac grand am with a 3.4 V6 engine. I was driving down the road when it suddenly overheated I pulled over and poured in some antifreeze, after letting it cool down for a bit I went to start it and heard a clank sound and that was it. All the antifreeze I poured in it leaked out and now it won't start. I still have power and when I try to start it, it will try to turnover but then make a clanking sound in the engine. Do u think the engine is shot? Is there any types of tests I can do to check it?       Thanks.

Answer
Hi there:

well it doesn't sound good. where does the anti freexe leak out on the ground from? if it overheated that never a good thing. If it got really hot it could have cuase some severe internal damage. with out seeing it or hearing it I cam't tell you for sure. pull the engine oil dip stick out and see what the oil looks like if it has a white milky look to it the anti freeze was leaking internally into the engine and that is never good antifreeze and oil don't mix and then the oil looses it's lubricting properties and can cause some real damage. good luck :)
