Motorcycle Repair: Turn Signals Honda CL125S, volt bulb, ground paths

Question
Bill,  I double checked after getting your previous answer, and now neither turn signal is flashing, either when the motorcycle is running or not.  Now both seem reasonable bright so I don't think it is a case of a 12 volt bulb in them.  Is there a lack for a ground (and where might that be) or the signal switch is not working (would I check the contacts for the switch on the handle bar or where).  Thanks so much.  Larry

Answer
Larry... do you mean neither side or neither of the front/rear on one side? If there are variances between sides, then the handlebar switch contacts are probably dirty. Remove the switch screws, split the two halves and spray some contact cleaner inside, while moving the switch back and forth from L to R, to help clean the contacts. Check the wire connectors in the headlight shell for clean tight connections.

If the bulbs are bright all around when switching back and forth between L & R sides, then I would replace the turn signal flasher, located down by the battery box. Try a generic 6v flasher from your local auto parts stores.

If all bulbs were dim, then battery voltage is low. If just one or two are dim and the correct bulbs are in place, then check the ground paths from the bulb sockets to the chassis ground points.
