Question
--1998 HARLEY DAVIDSON SRORTSER 1200--
HI MIKE,I BOUGHT A NEW BATTERY APPROX. 3 MONTHS AGO BECAUSE I HAD TO KEEP RECHARGING THE OLD BATTERY (I THOUGHT THAT BATTERY HAD A PROBLEM).NOW I'M HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE NEW BATTERY.THE BIKE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE RECHARGING ITSELF.ANY IDEAS?

THANKS,
VITO

Answer
Its one of two things. Its either the regulator or the stator. you can test the stator. Unplug it and with a OHM meter test for ground at the plug. If it tests ok then you can test the volts using a AC volt meter. Start the bike and at the stator plug  and at 2000 RPM you should be showing around 60 volts. If not then the stator is bad and needs to be replaced. If it tests ok, then the voltage regulator is bad.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
