Motorcycle Repair: primary capacity, anniversary tour, bottom lip

1988 85th anniversary tour glide. what is the correct amount of primary oil? also if the bike spews oil when you crank it, is the ball sticking in the oil pump? also the inboard or out board screw on the pump which one has the ball. thanx, mike

Stand the bike upright and remove the center inspection cover on the primary. Fill the priamry with primary oil just until it gets to the bottom lip of the inspection cover.
As to the oil problem. The ball is not sticking, it is not seating. You can remove the cover, its the one closest to the motor, and the spring inside. Take a punch and lightly tap the ball and this will help reseat it. With that age of a bike I would also replace the spring.
