Motorcycle Repair: swingarm adjustments and fork oil leaks, loose bolt, oil leaks

Question
The bike is a '70 Electa Glide, FLH.

I saw small amounts of oil on the front tire when I took the bike out of storage this spring and I suspected the reason is the that the front fork seal(s) need replacing.  I have not seen any oil recently however.  Does that mean the oil is all gone?  If so, what kind of damage am I doing by riding it?  How long would it take to do this, and how difficult a task is it?

Secondly, someone rode my bike and asked if I had noticed a "shimmy" in the rear.  I had not, and still don't.  It was suggested that the swingarm needs adjusting.  Is that necessary? How many hours would it take a mechanic to do, and what parts are required?

Lastly, I hear a rattle as the bike accelerates.  I have been told that every 2 or 3 years I should have my bike completely dissasembled and put back together.  I know that this rigid mount bike vibrate an awful lot, but is that overkill?  I'm thinking the labor alone would make it acouple grand each time I had that done.

Thank you in advance for your response.

Answer
If you saw a small amount it probably is nont gone, but since you have a leak it is time to change the seals. The oil in the forks goes through small holes in the forks to help dampen the ride, but there is not really any damage.
To replace the seals can be done in a afternoon and is not tough to do.
There is no adjustment for your swingarm. There is however, bearings in it that after time will wear out. The shimmy can be caused by a wore tire. If you dont feel it and, you ride the bike all the time, then i wouldn't worry about it.
As to tearing the bike apart, I have never heard of anything like that in my life! I have seen older bikes than yours, never had a things done to them and they still run great. Softtails even is the 90's were solid mounted and dont need to be taken apart and put back together. I would go over the bike and look for a loose bolt. That is probably your rattle.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
