Motorcycle Repair: Norton single carb, air fuel mixture, hiway

Question
My 1975 Norton Mk3 run good on the hiway, but around town it spits and sputers and the plugs foul . the plugs turn a smutty black everyone says it looks like the carb is too rich. I changed the bike over to a single amal carb. how can I find how to make the bike run right at slow speed in town riding?  thanks

Answer
Hi Baker,

The air-fuel mixture will need tuning, or the air intake less restricted to correct the overly rich condition.
