Motorcycle Repair: Honda Elsinore no spark, honda elsinore, plug gap

Question
Hi there, i am restoring a 1976 CR250M elsinore and cannot get any spark out of it. It was running before i pulled it apart. The restoration has been a full tear down, bare chassis and split the cases exercise and she's looking sweet, apart from zero spark when I earth the plug against the head stud and turn her over (I still have the head off at this stage)i need a check list of things to check to rule out what could be wrong. wiring on this is pretty simple, just generator/coil/plug. so i'm guessing its not earthing somewhere due to paint and powdercoating etc. the frame was powdercoated so maybe the coil is not earthed? also does the kill switch need to earth against the bars? I have a selection of tools but do i need more than just a circuit tester to run through a diagnosis? point gap is about 18 thou set at .0906 BTDC.
Thank you

Answer
Hi Glenn,

Q:  i'm guessing its not earthing somewhere due to paint and powdercoating etc. the frame was powdercoated so maybe the coil is not earthed?

A:  I agree

Q:  also does the kill switch need to earth against the bars?

A:  Yes

Q:  I have a selection of tools but do i need more than just a circuit tester to run through a diagnosis?

A: A multimeter (VOM) is needed.

My specs resource calls for plug gap to be 0.024"
