Motorcycle Repair: sproket change, honda shadow ace, honda shadow ace 750

Question
hi. I hope you can help with my problem. I have a honda shadow ace 750 2001 model. The bike is in perfect working order. My problem is at highway speed above 65 the bike sounds like it is running 100 mph but i still have a lot of power and torgue but it is screaming and the vibration is bad and i get sore in the saddle pretty quick. If i change the rear sproket down 2 teeth or up 2 teeth will this help the vibration get less? The bike just seems like it needs another gear in it as it is a 5 speed. It has cobra aftermarket exhaust other then that its stock. Thanks for any help at all

Answer
Cruisers are for cruising, not for touring :>)

Check with http://www.sprocketspecialists.com/html/main.shtml

The can fix you up with most anything you need. You can check with Honda about optional sprockets, but they probably don't have them. Be aware that changing the sprockets to something with a higher ratio may cause issues of clearance with chain guard on the back or the front case area on the front. You would want to go down teeth on the rear or add one at the front, to raise the speed at a given rpm...

Do realize that Honda builds their engines to REV in most cases, so even if it sounds bad, it probably isn't hurting anything. Gearing up may help your fuel mileage, though.
