Motorcycle Repair: Cranks to slow, custom harley davidson, softtail custom

Question
I have a 93 softtail custom Harley-Davidson I have spent $500 trying to get it too crank faster I had the starter replaced with a high torque starter that burned up I had the original starter rebuilt at a bike shop and I installed it and some heavy-duty starting cables heavy-duty battery sure shot starter relay and had the timing checked and the vacuum switch replaced .  The only two things I can think of that could be wrong is either they were too lazy at the bike shop to really checked the timing because it is a job or maybe my electronic ignition module might not be working correctly and not adjusting advance correctly, it is always trying to start on top dead center it always acts like it has too much compression to crank over soon as you get it passed top dead center it crank fine what do you think.  Oh yeah I forgot to tell you it has always done this ever since I bought the bike and the engine was Stock.

Answer
All harleys, when you shut them off, stop right before top dead center. This is due to the compression. When you go to start the bike, you hve to get past that initional compression and then it will turn over. Timing will only affect the starting if it is to far advanced and will make the bike kick back. You can retard the ignition a little and that will help with starting.
Check your ground on the block and make sure it is good and tight. Also check the breakers. Over time they get weak and even though they will show 12 volts, they are not letting enough juice through.
Good luck and happy riding
