Motorcycle Repair: Not starting, yamaha virago xv750, bill silver

Question
My bike is a 1986 Yamaha Virago XV750.
I bought it about a 2 years ago but illness has since caused me to store it covered outdoors.

Just prior to that, I had a mechanic run through it and he gave it a very high mark saying that it it is a great bike.

I haven't started it for about a year.  Last week I put it up for sale and bought a new battery.  The engine wants to turn okay, but it won't start.  I put in new gas and everything.

Any suggestions?

Answer
Andy, you can't let bikes sit for 2 years with old gas in the carbs and fuel tank. The gas congeals inside the carbs and plugs up the passages. You can attempt to use some Yamaha carb cleaner product drizzled down inside the bowls, but it is likely that you will have to drain, clean the whole fuel system before you can get it running again.
