In followup to your response the bike is a 1997 1200 Sportster.  

Answer
If your talking about the primary, all you have to do is remove the round cover located in the center top of the primary cover.That will get you to the chain and the primary oil. If you are wanting to drain the primary oil there is a nut located under the bike at the back of the primary. Neither take a special tool.
If you are talking about the crankcase of the motor, the only way to get to it is to remove the heads and cylinders.
