Motorcycle Repair: Clutch, allen screw, clutch lever

Question
I adjusted the clutch on my '98 Fatboy today.  I loosened the cable until slack then loosened the locknut at the clutch at the primary and turned the allen screw counter clock wise half a turn. I then took up the slack in the clutch cable until there was about a 16th of inch play.  Was this correct?
And what happens when you continue to turn the allen screw counter clock wise.  Will you eventually have to change the entire clutch?
Thank you...

Answer
You turned the allen screw the wrong way to adjust the clutch. What you need to do it put slack in the cable, turn the allen screw inward, or clockwise, just until it touches. Back it out about 1/8 of a turn. Now tighten the slack out of the cable, just until you have 1/8 inch play in the clutch lever.
As to replacing the clutch. You will get to a point where the clutch doenst have enough adjustment left or it doenst work before you have to replace it. Dont worry, clutches on harleys last a long time.
Good luck and happy riding
