Motorcycle Repair: 72 cb 350 flasher module, check voltage, auto parts store

Question
Bill,

My cb 350 turn signals don't flash. I know the flasher module is bad so I plugged in a flasher module from an '80 cm 400 honda. I saw the same problem but with this module I could hear a click noise coming from the module. I guess this module may be bad too. My question is, can the original flasher module be fixed easily? It's realy small I can be opened easily enough. Thanks.

R/ Bill

Answer
Bill, basically most automotive flashers from an auto parts store will function on the bike. Power flow is
BATTERY-IGNITION SWITCH-FLASHER-T-SIG SWITCH- L/R LIGHTS to GROUND.
Check your battery voltage... should be 12.5-13.2 volts.
Check voltage in and out of flasher.. should be close to the same. Check voltage in and out of t/sig switch..should still be close to battery voltage. Turn on switch and check L&R sides. If one side works and the other doesn't, check all bulbs for proper wattage and then check ALL grounding paths for each light assembly.
You really can't FIX the flashers. They are current operated switches. If there isn't sufficent draw through them, they won't flash. The bulbs are the loads for the circuits. Unless there is corrosion on the contacts inside, you can't do much with the flashers.
