Motorcycle Repair: honda 1983 vt 750cc, worst case scenario, camshaft

Question
I just changed gaskets on the front cylender,I believe I installed the camshaft properly yet the bike will not start. Yes I did follow a manual. It turns over very well, but it will not start, it did back fire twice. Could I have installed the camshaft wrong? would this cause a back fire? Thanks for all your help.

Answer
Hi Simon.
It is possible and quite likely that you have the valve and ignition timing off.

Go back into the engine and check your valve gaps and ignition timing.
Worst case scenario, you will have to re-install the camshaft.

Let me know what you find and we can proceed from there.
Good luck.
