Motorcycle Repair: Honda Rebel CMX 250, honda rebel cmx 250, cable adjusters

Question
My 1999 Honda Rebel CMX 250's throttle is sticking pretty bad. I have oiled it twice and checked the adjusting nut, both of which had no effect. It sticks way worse when the bars are turned right and hardly at all when they're cocked left. If you could help me out that would be great.

Answer
Matthew, from the sounds of it, your handlebars may have been changed or bent from an accident.... OR the throttle cables are misrouted under the fuel tank.

There is a throttle cable adjustment on the pull cable where it goes into the throttle housing and adjustments down on the carburetor, itself.

Loosen the cable adjusters so you have about a 1/8th inch free play at the throttle grip when the handlebars are pointed forward. If this doesn't help, then you may have to pull the seat and fuel tank to check the cable routing from the throttle grip to the carburetor. They may have been moved during a service and not replaced properly. You should have no response from the engine when you turn the handlebars left and right. Be sure that they are not binding, pinching and have sufficient slack in the cables by the adjustments I mentioned.
