Motorcycle Repair: Rejetting S&S 113 motor, air fuel mixture, intermediate jet

Question
I purchased a bike out of Florida and need to rejet it for Denver colorado (5280 feet). It has a 113" S&S motor with a Super E carb in it. Is there any information as to which jets to install for this altitude here in Denver? I can do the tuning, but don't know which jets to put in.

Thanks,

Ralf

Answer
Your bike will probably run rich there so you need smaller jets. Heres how to jet the bike.
First, turn the pumper off. On the top of the carb you will see 3 screws. The one on the left is the idle, center (the big one) is the air/fuel mixture and the one on the left is the pumper. Screw it out to turn it off. Next you need to start the bike and let it warm up. Once its warm adjust the air/fuel mixture. Slowly turn the screw inward, until the bike starts to stumble, then out about 1/4 of a turn. Remember, every time you make a jet change you need to reset the air/fuel mixute like above.
Now go for a ride. Do not go over 2500 RPM. What you are looking for is how the bike runs. If it spits through the carb then the intermediate jet is to big. Bogging and its to small. To change the jet, take the bowl off the carb and you will see the jet on the right back corner. A long tube. If you need a change then take out the jet, check the number and either go bigger to smaller. Put it back together and go for another ride. Remember to set the air/fuel again. If it runs fine, now you need to set the main jet. Do the same as above except run over 3000 RPM. Look for the same thing. the main jet is located under the drain plug, so you dont have to remove the bowl.
After you have the carb set, open the pumper about 1.5 turns. If when riding if the bike bogs between gears open it a little farther.
Hope this helps
Good luck and happy riding
