Motorcycle Repair: Harley Tank LIner, radiator shops, radiator shop

Question
I have a 96' Heritage Soft Tail that I've been having problems with lately. The custom tank has a liner inside of it. In the past few weeks, the liner has been falling apart and getting clogged in my petcock and fuel filter. B/c of the custom tank and paint job, replacing the tank would be very expensive. I've been reading that some radiator shops can remove the liner and reseal the tank. After researching this a bit further, some shops are telling me it will need to be burned/boiled out, which will not allow me to save the paint job. I've also read about a product called Red Kote. Some shops claim that this stuff works pretty well, while others say it's a temporary solution that may only work for a year or two. Any ideas on how to get this fixed without replacing the tank and without damaging the paint job? Do you know of any solution that could remove the old liner (which may be either Kreem or Red Kote)? Do you know of any shops in the US that could handle this type of work?

Thanks in advance for your help. This is quite a service you offer.

Answer
You can use Kreem or red kote if the tank a really clean. They have a product to clean it before coating it. Follow the directions on the product and take your time. As to a radiator shop doing the work. You are correct, the tank would have to be boiled and will hurt the paint.
Good luck and happy riding
