Motorcycle Repair: Harley Trans, netural, flhs

Question
Had a shifter spring replaced, now I cannot shift into neutral unless i shut engine off, once in awhile i can get into neutral while slowing to a stop. Had shop adjust everything over again, but no fix. had clutch adjusted, taken apart and checked, everything Ok. this is a 1987 Harley  FLHS any help would sure be appreciated

Answer
In the Harley trans there is a fine line between first, netural and second. What you are doing is trying to hit a very small space on the shifter cam. I have seen bikes that are a real bear to get into netural, even newer bikes! After replacing the spring you have made the shifter tighter making it harder to get into netural.
The only fix for this is to remove the shifter cam and look for wear as well as the shifter dogs. If they are worn then you have to replace them.
Good luck and happy riding
