Car Stereos: amp install in 88 ford taurus, steering linkage, ford taurus

Question
I am trying to install a small 250w JL mono amp in my 88 ford Taurus GL. My problem is that I am not sure where to run the wire past the firewall. it is a bit tricky to run the 4 gauge wire my amp will take under those door sills. As far as trying to run it from the rear sills to the trunk, I am puzzled. There is no obvious space available to squeeze that stuff without getting some possible pinch points. Any tips you can give? Maybe there is a better way all together to run the power and RCA wires? Thanks!!!

Answer
Hi,

If you look near where the steering linkage passes through the firewall, you should find there are some premade holes in the firewall that weren't used by the car company when they built the car.  As a result, they would have filled them in with rubber grommets.  Locate one such hole, pull out the grommet, cut a hole in the middle of it, and run your 4 gauge through that.  Then return the grommet, and pull the 4 gauge through.

As for running the cable, I've successfully installed 4 gauge wire in an 89 Tempo by running it under the lower trim near the doors on the sideand then under the rear seats, and into the trunk.  Do a little digging, you should be able to pull it off.

Just make sure you run the RCAs on the opposite side of the car from the power so you don't get EMI off the power wire.
