Motorcycle Repair: No headlights, goldwing 1500, halogen lights

Question
I have a 2000 Goldwing 1500.   It is a roll of the dice if my headlights will work or not.  This started about a month ago.  I have all the other lights around the bike including the clear lights next to the headlights (thats how I have made it home a couple of nights).  Is there a relay that might be going out?  Some days they come on...some days they don't.  I do have some aftermarket halogen lights that have also quit working (they quit a long time ago) but I can not find anything wrong with the wiring to them.  I also have not had the time to remove the seat and half the fairing to trace it out completely.  I don't know if there is a link between the two.

Answer
Hi Brad,

Check all switches related to the headlights and accessory lights. Look for evidence of corrosion, dead insects, spider webs, and any other non-conductors that may be causing the problem. I've found all of the above mentioned things in switches and causing similar problems.

I believe the lights even go through the (ECM) engine control module. Check the service manual for troubleshooting procedures.

Otherwise, check each leg of the lighting circuit by tracing voltage and checking components. It's frustrating work. Could be a faulty relay as you suspect.

Let me know what you find.

Respectfully,
