Motorcycle Repair: Honda Magna 1987, honda magna, bill silver

Question
Hi, Bill

I hope you can point me in the right direction. First a little history.  My 87 Magna has been stored in my garage for over 2 years.  I have just changed out the oil, gas, spark plugs, air filter, coolant and battery.  The bike will not start.  The starter turns and the engine turns over.  I checked for spark and there is one however it does not seem large. What should I check next?

Thanks

Steve -

Answer
IF you have spark at the plugs, that should be enough, especially if it is the same at all four plugs.

I suspect that your carbs will have to be overhauled. Leaving old gas in them for 2 years is deadly to the small passages inside the carb bank.

Try using some Yamaha carb cleaner products, mixed with gasoline... follow the instructions. If that doesn't work and you have a fresh set of plugs in the bike, then the carbs need removal and cleaning.
