Motorcycle Repair: Oil Leak/ Pressure build-up, bolt and nut, vent hose

Question
I have a 1991 Sportster with the evolution 883. My boyfriend was changing my controls to forward controls. On the Left side where he took off the highway pegs, there is a long bolt that goes through the bottom of the casing. We were missing a part and couldnt install the forward controls, so instead of reattaching the peg, he just put the bolt back in, however he didnt realize that he hadnt put the nut on the other end so it was just sitting in there loosely. So we rode for about 30 minutes, and when we stopped for gas, it was leaking oil around the bolt and at the end of a hose under the battery that looks like a drain line for the oil tank. We rode it home and put the nut and it doesnt seem to be leaking there now, but it is still leaking from the hose in the back, was blowing a little bit of smoke (kinda grayish to white) out the pipes. And also, when we opened the oil tank, it had a lot of built up pressure.
The metal clip holding the hose seems a little loose. Is it possible it is just pulling air and building up pressure and just needs a new clip? Any advice would be appreciated!  It 75 and sunny!
Thanks!

Answer
I think you are having two different problems that are not related.
On the bolt that was leaking, That was a case bolt. The cases were loose which made it leak. Putting the bolt and nut back on stopped it.
I think the hose you are refering to is the vent hose. It is suppose to vent the bottom end of hte bike so no pressure builds up. Sometimes a little oil drips out of it. The smoke from the pipes is oil burning. SO the first thing I would do is a compression test to check to see if the rings are bad.
Good luck and happy riding
