Motorcycle Repair: Z650 float height, yorkshire england, accurate measurement

Question
Hi Mark,
I wonder if you can help me, I've just fitted new float valves & seats in a Z650B 1977.When I try to start it I can only get it to fire on cylinders 3&4.
I'm running a Dyna s ignition & coils with slide carbs & standard airbox & filter.Plugs are all wet with fuel & there's a good spark. The only thing I can think is that the float heights are way out, is there a measurement from the base flange I can use to set them or must I use a manometer as this is the only way stated in the manual? Any help would be appreciated as I'm starting to pull my hair out. Thanks a lot.

Answer
Hi Mal,

Remove the carburetors and measure float heights. Measure and compare float height levels. Record the measurements on paper for later reference. If necessary, adjust the two suspect levels to match the two good levels.

Kawasaki likes to measure "fuel service levels" instead of float heights. This requires an expensive Kaw Special Tool purchase. I think the Manometer is a more accurate measurement.
