Motorcycle Repair: rear wheel alignment, wheel alignment, proper alignment

Question
Hi Mike. I own a 04 Deuce and plan to add some accessories that will require the removal of the rear wheel,I also bought the 04 shop manual. My problem is after the wheel is re installed the manual doesnt explain how to adjust the rear wheel, instead it tells me to take it to my local HD service center. Can you explain the procedure on how to adjust the rear wheel for proper alignment?
Thanks for your help.

Answer
Once you have reinstalled the rear wheel, leaving the axle nut loose, find a location on each side that is equal with the axle. You can use the adjusters. Tighten both sides somewhat. Now go to the belt side and tighten the adjuster until the belt is properly adjusted. Take a measurement of the adjuster bolt. Now go to the other side and adjust the bolt to the same measurement. Recheck the belt to make sure its right. If not adjust it again and take a measurement and adjust the other side the same. Tighten the axle bolt to the proper specs and your good to go.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
