Motorcycle Repair: Carb tunning, screw out, intermediate jet

Question
I have a S&S carb on a 1999 Indian Chief with the 88 C.I. motor. When I start the bike i have to pull the choke all the way out even after i have ridden for a hour, while ridding i have to have the choke out just a little to keep it running when i stop. If there are any suggestions you can give i thank you.

Answer
Sounds like you have a intermediate jet that is plugged with dirt. You will need to pull the carb, remove the bowl and remove the jets. Look through them and see if you see dirt. Wheil they are out blow air through them. Also take the air/fule mixture mixture screw out and blow air through that as well. Make sure you count the number of turns it is set at so you can put it back in the same place. Put everything back together and go for a ride.
Good luck and happy riding
