Motorcycle Repair: turn signal problem 99 super glide sport, bullet turn signals, modual

Question
99' super glide sport

Just bought the new bullet turn signals to replace the old ones. I started at the back of the bike. I first changed the left one. I even used the male connector from the old turn signal that plugs in behind the tail light. I tested it. It didn't work right for the first couple of seconds, then it worked fine. Then I changed the right side the same way. It seemed so easy. There was only two wires per side (black and purple) and the wiring that came with the new lights had the same type of wiring. How could I screw up? Anyways, I finished the right side and was ready to test the lights the final time. Turned the the bike on and started with the left, fine. Then the right, fine for about 2 seconds. Then they all started blinking. So the final result stands. Turn on the right side and both rear turn signals blink along with the tail light. The right side signal is not as bright as the other two. When you turn on the left side just the opposite happens. I mean all the lights blink at the rear of the bike just like they did when I turned the right side on, but the left side is not as bright as the other two. I did not know what to do. I tried switching the black and purples, did not work still had same problem. I even disconnected the new lights and reconnected the old ones and the problem still exists. In all the cases mentioned above the tail light running light works and the brake light works. It's only when I try to use those turn signals everything goes haywire. The bike is very clean. Has been garage kept and there is no corrosion on any wires anywhere. Can you help?

Answer
It sounds like you have a ground wire problem. The turn signals are controled by a turn signal modual. WHen it sences not enough current is being sent to the signals then it make them flash. Check your wiring. Follow the ground wire and see hows its attached.
Good luck and happy riding
