Motorcycle Repair: tires, shadow ace, tires

Hey!  I have a 98 shadow ace that I bought from a dealer last summer with 4000 miles on it.  My tires are cracking on the walls.  When should I replace them/is it necessary to replace them?  Thanks.

The tire are cracking from weather and the age of the tires. Many time the tires you get are new, but they may have been made 5 years before. As long as the cord is not showing your tires should be fine. You should replace the tires once the tread is about half way wore.
