Motorcycle Repair: Gpz 750 starting problems, gpz750, differance

Question
Hi Mark, I've been having difficulties starting my 86 aircooled gpz750 for the past 2 months, first time starting in the morning when its cold somedays it just won't start or even roll start on a decent hill but the next day it will fire first go. I always use full choke to start, sometimes it will fire up then die out straight away like it starves for fuel, then it wont start so i leave it rest then i try an hour or so later i was leaving it in the sun as i felt it might help- no idea i just did and it would start no worries, a friend suggested using a lighter oil as i was using 20w so i went for a 15w which made a differance for a couple of weeks but then the problem came again, i have 2 park it in the street and it was uncovered so i bought a cover and was putting a blanket over it as well which seemed to help a lot and it had been starting ok for almost 2weeks but the past few days it has been playing up some days it will start some it won't. I have put a new battery in it just to see if it made a difference but it had no impact at all, the starter motor clutch is worn and i'm looking at getting that fixed up but it will be costly and i'm loooking to sell it in 2 months as im goin overseas for a trip so i didnt want to spend money on the bike so i would be glad if you had any suggestions i can look at to keep it running til i can sell it

Kind regards
Paul Theuil

Hi Paul,

I can send you tech files with an email address. Use my email: mshively1@woh.rr.com

Are you sure it's a 1986 GPz? I couldn't find any microfiche for a GPz750 model year. I remember them being earlier 1980's models.
