Motorcycle Repair: coughing on take off, shively, stoplight

Question
yamaha roadstar, 2005. Once in a while when you leave a stoplight the motor will cough. The dealer set up the idle to a silly amount but I haven't been on it that much lately to see if it corrected anything. Do you know the correct way to fix it and so it can idle like it's supposed to. The motorcycle has 895 miles on it. The problem is happening when the motor is at normal operating temp.
        Thanks, Herb

Answer
Hi Herb,

What does "The dealer set up the idle to a silly amount" mean? This doesn't describe engine RPM.

The new Roadstar is under warranty. If you experience any problems, return it to the dealer immediately for inspection.

From the information provided, I cannot accurately diagnose the idling problem. The idle may simply be adjusted too high. If so, turn the idle adjuster screw. See your Owner's Manual to locate this adjuster knob.

Be sure to read the understand entire Owner's Manual.
