Motorcycle Repair: removing rear wheel xr 70, wheel bearings, bike bandit

Question
What is the correct procedure to remove the rear wheel from the frame .this is a 2002xr70 honda ...the center axle bolt doesnt seem to thread out or drive out ...we do not want to damage the part so your assistance would be greatly appreiciated. ( the frame does not have full slide out cuts where the axle bolt goes thru)...thanks a million

Answer
Hi Chris,

Loosen the chain adjuster lock nuts and back the chain adjusters out a bit. Loosen the axle nut. Loosen any brake assembly lock nuts and nuts. Tap the axle through the wheel with a soft hammer (brass or other soft material). Push axle through with a soft material dowel or punch that will pass through wheel bearings.

It's difficult to explain the procedure. You may have to use some energy to remove the axle. See microfiche parts at "www.bikebandit.com" and learn how the parts are assembled. Look at the rear brake, rear wheel, and swing arm microfiche views.

Find shop manuals at Bike Bandit, too. : )
