Motorcycle Repair: clutch replacment, clutch springs, clutch plates

Question
i have a '96 vs800 intruder. the clutch is slipping, moreso in the higher gears, if i get on the gas. i have a work manual on the bike and have replaced clutch plates before. how hard is it really, to pull the covers, and replace the plates. i've priced to have it done at a dealer(@$350),but most of that is labor. just wondered if i should attempt it myself

thanks

Answer
Hi Bill,

The task can be done easily at home, that's easy for me to say. Depending upon your tool selection, work space, and other domestic variables, the task should be easy to perform.

New Clutch Tips:
Replace metal plates, fiber plates, and clutch springs as a set. These parts wear together. Replacing only one of the three will result with the old parts quickly wearing the new parts. Soak fiber plates in the new engine oil overnight before installation. Use Suzuki Bond or other sealants sparingly when used.
