Motorcycle Repair: Follow up, 1980 xt500g yamaha electrical problem, regulator rectifier, stator assembly

I went to: electrexusa website to obtain a trouble shooting chart and to check on replacement electrical parts. Their fault chart for motorcycle charging specifies that it only works for models with a combined regulator/rectifier unit in a single case,these two units are separate on my motorcycle! There parts list for bottom end electrical only has a cdi unit listed for my model,( specifying,1981-92, but says it replaces all years for xt500 and 550?)not a coil,regulator,rectifier or magneto/stator assembly? I guess I have to make a long distance call to find out for sure something I think is another dead end trail! I do beleive my problem is with my cdi assembly and would appreciate some more expert advice!

Do you have the shop manual for your MC? If not, try and find a copy.
