Motorcycle Repair: 1979 sportster, gas oil, hasnt

I just came across a 79 sporty...hasnt started or had anything done to it in over 8 years...still has old gas, oil batt..etc..  is it worth me trying to redo?  Im not cash heavy

Alot depends on what you are going to pay for it and how much of the work you are planning on doing yourself. Sitting for 8 years in not good on the motor and bearings, so it would probably need rebuilt. The 79 is a unique bike. Its the only year that that model was build, so the exhaust has to be for a 79. Several other parts are like that also. Sitting that long, it probably needs torn down to the bare frame and started over. According to the NADA in the condition you described it would be worth around 1800-2300. In excellent condition around 5500. So you can see you dont have alot of money to play with.
