Motorcycle Repair: BIKE DIES AFTER WARMING UP, sears hardware stores, honda vfr750f

Question
I jumped off a 1991 honda vfr750f with my carolla, while the car was running. I know, BIG mistake. Anyhow, too late. The problem I am having now is that I replaced the battery, and after it runs for awhile and warms up, the bike dies. After it sits for a while, it will start again and run, but then it dies again. Lights turn on, but dim. I was told I may have burned up the stator or regulator. Worst part, I am still paying off this bike I purchased off a friend..PLEASE, is there any hope for the bike? Thank you in advance..

Answer
Hi Jesse,

Perform electrical diagnosis to determine which parts are damaged.

Test alternator, regulator/rectifier, and battery. To learn how to perform these tests, I recommend the purchase of the shop manual. Find MC manuals at (www.bikebandit.com) and at Ebay.

The tests are simple to perform. You'll need a good multi-meter (Volt-Ohm meter). Sears Hardware stores sell decent meters for about $30. Otherwise, check Radio Shack for decent, low priced meters.

I would have returned test intel to assit you, but there was no email address with your question as requested.
